WHAT IS MOISSANITE?

MOISSANITE

A Gem truly out of this world

Dr. Henri Moissan discovered a new crystal at the impact site of a meteor in 1893. However, at the time, he mistakenly believed that he had come across diamond crystals due to their similar visual appearance.

A decade later, in 1904, under the examining eye of a chemist, it was soon proven that Moissan’s find was compositionally different from diamonds, being formed of silicon carbide.

After Moissan’s initial discovery, “moissanite” would make few appearances outside of meteor craters. In fact, it would take half a century for the next natural moissanite deposit to be found.

Natural Moissanite is much rarer than natural diamonds but it is not found on Earth in sufficient sizes or quantities to be made into a gemstone.

All Moissanite gemstones are therefore grown (at some considerable expense) in a lab, similarly to lab-grown diamonds. They are simply different crystals to diamonds but we believe Moissanite shines brighter than any comparable diamond and challenge you to compare the "sparkle", which we call the stone's Brilliance, Fire & Scintillation, to any diamond (natural or lab-grown) and then also compare the price. We believe you would choose the Moissanite gem, or maybe even more than one!
